Like most of the stuff I write, this has a fair amount of pop music influence. This work presents a single-movement theme and variations, where the the three variations take on the character of a traquil movement (that sounds a little bit like "Bittersweet Symphony"), an irony-rich march, and a funky closing variation. As is the case with many good variations, sometimes this one bobs when you think it's going to weave. Below is a fine recording of this work being ably performed by Kelly Vaneman, Sarah Johnson, Kenneth Law, and Douglas Weeks.
